How To: Install Active Directory on Windows Server 2008 - Step:1

In this post I will show you how to install Active Directory on Windows Server 2008. Later, I will show you the installation process on Windows Server 2008 R2. The windows Server 2008 implementation of Active Directory is called Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).

AD DS includes several new features and services. The most significant of these is the read-only domain controller (RODC). This is a new type of domain controller that hosts read-only copy of active directory database - which I will show you in my next post. For now lets start Active Directory installation on Windows Server 2008. Lets first add the AD DS Role Services to the Server.

Take a clean Windows Server 2008 and then add AD DS role by clicking on Add Roles option in Server Manager.
